Prohibited Items
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy lists what cannot be listed or rented on MeRents. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions (Section 3.2). Listings in a prohibited category cannot be published. If a listing breaks this policy we remove it, and we may restrict or suspend the account; we always tell you why and how to challenge the decision (Terms, Section 6.3).
1. Prohibited items
1.1 Weapons, fireworks and dangerous goods
- Weapons of any kind: firearms, air guns, airsoft and paintball markers, crossbows and bows for hunting, swords, machetes, combat and throwing knives, stun guns and pepper sprays.
- Replicas that can be mistaken for real weapons, ammunition and explosives.
- Fireworks and pyrotechnics.
- Gas cylinders (for example butane or propane bottles), fuel, and flammable, toxic or corrosive chemicals.
1.2 Drones
- All drones, whatever their size or weight, with or without a camera.
1.3 Vehicles and boats
- Motor vehicles that require registration or insurance: cars, motorbikes, mopeds, quads, vans, motorhomes and trailers.
- Electric scooters and other personal mobility vehicles (VMP), which since January 2026 must be registered with the DGT and insured.
- Speed pedelecs and other electric bikes whose motor assists above 25 km/h or does not require pedalling (legally, these are mopeds).
- Boats and jet skis that require registration or a licence to operate.
Allowed: bicycles, pedal-assisted electric bikes (motor up to 250 W that only assists while you pedal and stops at 25 km/h), and non-motorised items such as kayaks, paddle boards or skateboards.
1.4 Equipment that requires a licence or certificate
- Machinery or equipment that requires a licence, permit or certificate to operate, for example mobile elevating work platforms or other machinery for which the law requires certified training.
- Radio transmitters that require a licence.
1.5 Medical devices, medicines and health products
- Medical devices: prescription equipment and devices used for diagnosis or treatment, including hearing aids, breast pumps and CPAP machines.
- Medicines of any kind, with or without prescription.
- Food, cosmetics and other products for consumption or application on the body.
1.6 Safety-critical items with an unknown history
- Child car seats and booster seats.
- Climbing harnesses, ropes and other fall-arrest equipment.
- Motorcycle helmets.
Other protective equipment (for example bike helmets or life jackets) is allowed only if it has never been in an impact or accident, is undamaged and within the lifetime stated by the manufacturer, and the Listing states its age.
1.7 Surveillance and security-sensitive items
- Signal jammers.
- Hidden cameras, covert recording devices and other equipment designed to monitor people without their knowledge.
- Lock-picking tools and other tools designed to open locks without the key.
1.8 Alcohol and tobacco
- Alcoholic drinks, tobacco, e-cigarettes and vaping products.
1.9 Phones
- Mobile phones. This is a platform rule, not a legal ban: phones carry a high theft risk.
2. Never allowed
- Anything illegal in Spain or the EU, including controlled substances and drugs.
- Stolen or seized goods, and goods you are not entitled to rent out.
- Counterfeit goods or items that infringe intellectual or industrial property rights.
- Live animals, and products from protected species.
- Goods of the Spanish cultural heritage whose movement is restricted by law.
- Goods that have been recalled or are unsafe.
- Adult or pornographic content, and items that promote hate, violence or discrimination.
- Used underwear and swimwear, for hygiene reasons.
3. If you are unsure
Do not list it. If you think an item should be allowed, write to support@merents.app.
4. Report illegal listings
Use the Report button on any listing, or write to support@merents.app with:
- the link to the listing;
- why you believe it is illegal or breaks this policy;
- your name and email address;
- a statement that your report is accurate and made in good faith.
We confirm receipt, review the report without undue delay, and tell you and the author of the listing what we decided and how to challenge it. Where a listing suggests a threat to someone's life or safety, we inform the authorities.
Holders of intellectual or industrial property rights can notify infringing listings through the same channel.
